Table 5-1-6: permitted modifications – Added that stickers fitted to the rear and rear side windows of MA class vehicles may be fitted outside 100mm of any edge if the stickers are required for motorsport purposes (such as competition numbers), and the vehicle has a valid motorsport authority card.

Forklifts

New Lighting Rule changes now mean that forklifts are only required to have registration plate lamps and, if likely to be operated at night, headlamps (or work lamps) and rearward-facing position lamps. The mandatory requirements for end-outline marker lamps for forklifts over a certain size or weight are unchanged. Forward-facing position lamps and rear reflectors are no longer mandatory.

Note: A forklift used solely on a road that is a private road is not required to be registered (so no registration plate attached), and therefore a WoF cannot and must not be issued. Private road means a road, place or arcade laid out or formed on private land by the owner of that land. A forklift operated on a private road must still be safe and, if operated at night, must be fitted with headlamps or work lamps and rear position lamps.

Headlamps

RfR 11.d), SoL 15: headlamps must be bright enough illuminate the road ahead and be visible from 100m during darkness (previously must have illuminated road ahead for 50m only).

RfR 12.d), 15.e): some changes to the wording about the beam alignment and illumination to ensure safe vehicle operation. Dip rates in Table 4-1-1 are now only recommended, some corresponding changes to the Figures, Table 4-1-2 (angle conversions) deleted.

RfR 9.f), SoL 8.e): removed 200m visibility requirement, now only need to be bright enough to be visible at a reasonable distance. SoL 8.e) requiring 200m visibility deleted.

Forward-facing-position-lamps

RfR 1, SoL 1: reworded so that lamps are only mandatory if forklift is likely to be operated during hours of darkness. At least one lamp required. A number of RfRs and SoLs have been deleted as a result.

Rearward-facing-position-lamps

RfR 8.f), SoL 7.e): a mandatory lamp must be visible from 100m in normal darkness (was previously 200m). Deleted all visibility angle requirements.

RfR 1: clarify that the total number of three pairs of stop lamps includes top-mounted lamps.

Stop-lamps

RfR 9.f), SoL 1: visibility in daylight must be for a reasonable distance (was previously 100m).
