Vehicle certification and administration fees
Background
NZTA fees and charges changed from 1 October 2023. This was prompted by a review of NZTA funding, fees and charges showing the money received for our regulatory work didn't cover the costs of doing the work.
- Public consultation on changes to regulatory funding, fees and charges happened between March and May 2022.
- Changes to funding were approved by the Minister of Finance and the Minister of Transport in December 2022.
- Changes to 170 fees and charges were approved by Cabinet in April 2023.
- Changes to regulations were approved on 28 August 2023.
Blue Star also introduced price changes from 1 October 2023, which are included in the Total charge figures below.
Application fees to become a certifier or certifying organisation were removed from 1 October 2023.
Form and label fees
These fees are current at 1 October 2023. The NZTA charge columns exclude the print/distribution cost.
