Change from Police vetting to criminal record check

From 1 July 2024, people submitting inspecting organisation (IO), vehicle inspector (VI), or specialist certifier applications that require NZTA fit and proper checks will need to get their own criminal records from the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) and send it to us with their application.

After this date, all applications that are submitted without an MOJ criminal record will be returned to the applicant as incomplete.

How to get a criminal record from MOJ

You can apply online. It’s free of charge.
