NZTA reviewing regulatory compliance and getting tough on enforcement

Today the NZ Transport Agency announced a major overhaul of the way it regulates all vehicles on the roads and licenses people working in the transport sector. This follows a continuing, independent review of vehicle certification files and the recent discovery of significant non-compliance within the industry.

We have now instigated a risk-based approach to addressing any non-compliance where public safety could be at risk, giving priority to the most urgent cases.

We need all of our regulatory partners and the sectors in which you regulate to work alongside us and accept your roles in ensuring regulatory compliance.

Safety is our top priority, and there will be stricter oversight in the future. We’ll be providing all regulated parties with details about our change in enforcement approach and what it will mean for your industry.

We'll continue to keep you updated.
