WoF and CoF frequency change

From 1 September 2025, Warrant of Fitness (WoF) checks on light vintage and veteran vehicles and Certificate of Fitness (CoF) checks on privately owned heavy motorhomes will change from every 6 months to every 12 months.

New inspection group categories in VIC and LANDATA

We’re adding new categories to cater for the amended expiry period parameters for eligible vehicles. The groups will be loaded to your profile from 1 September and added to your appointment certificates at the time of renewal.

WoF inspection groups

Group 7 – VINTAGE/VETERAN VEHICLE

Group 8 – VINTAGE/VETERAN MOTORCYCLE

CoF B inspection groups

Group 27 – PVT HEAVY MOTORHOME GVM less than 12,000kg

Group 28 - PVT HEAVY MOTORHOME GVM greater than 12,000kg

We'll add the new groups to our manuals, forms, and website information (VIRM and Vehicle Inspection Portal).

Change to motorhome definition

Please note that the recent rule change also altered the motorhome definition to include a toilet to help set it apart from other heavy vehicles that may be used as mobile dwellings.

Amendment Rule

The definition of a private heavy motorhome eligible for the 12-month change is:

A vehicle with a gross mass of more than 3,500kg, not used for the carriage of passengers for hire or reward and not operated under a transport service licence. It's primarily used as a mobile dwelling and must include at least one sleeping berth with cooking facilities and a toilet.

Something to keep in mind as you inspect motorhomes.

Note: the above definition was corrected on 1 September 2025.
