Fit and proper person check
All persons appointed as HV certifiers are required to be and to remain ‘fit and proper persons’.
The criteria considered for this may include:
- relevant criminal convictions
- transport-related offences
- relevant warnings, penalties and disciplinary actions imposed
- relevant complaints
- the interest of the public and land transport safety.
Fit and proper guidelines for inspecting organisations, vehicle inspectors and specialist certifiers
If you’re applying for a new appointment as an HVS certifier (and you aren’t currently appointed as an inspecting organisation, vehicle inspector, or specialist certifier), you need to get your criminal record check from the Ministry of Justice and send it to us with your application.
